The Ruha Story
In Hindi Ruha रूह is defined as the soul, spirit or essence of being. This powerful sense of self is the story told by every piece of Ruha jewellery; wearing it is an act of empowerment, protection, power and love of oneself. Because I hope and believe all women can feel this inner strength and soul connection, Ruha is made to be cherished forever and worn every day; it is a spiritual fine jewellery collection for a modern woman. Ruha brings to life my three big passions and purposes: jewellery as adornment infused with meaning, spiritualism and the esoteric world and a connection with the abundant energy and colour of India. Having studied silversmithing and jewellery design in my twenties and written my thesis on Indian jewellery and its meanings, all Ruha designs share my belief that jewellery has meaning beyond adornment. The Indian stones and spiritual symbolism that inspire my instinctive design process reflect an aesthetic that constantly evolves but always comes back to a love of vibrant colour and the beautiful gems of Jaipur.
ETHICS + PROCESS
I choose to work with a small team of independent local artisans in Jaipur, paying them a fair wage and giving them opportunities to grow so that my success becomes their success. Just as I endeavour to buy fully traceable and ethically sourced and mined gems, all Ruha velvet pouches are handmade in a small Indian co-op, hand-embroidered by women to support their independence and living standards. It is a vital part of Ruha that its creation bears a tangible positive impact on the craftspeople in my team.
As a trained sound therapist, the final part of my creative process is the cleansing and charging of every piece with a specific vibration. It is my belief that every step on the path to owning a piece of Ruha jewellery should be supportive, respectful and positive to people and planet.
